Facet Pain Test

Find a comfortable chair and turn your head right then bring it back as far as you can and look at the ceiling, as shown below.

Head back and to the right.

if you have right sided pain in the back of your neck, you may have a swollen or irritated facet joint on the right.  Pain in the front of the neck or on the left side usually means that it's not a facet joint.

Next turn it left and bring it back as far as you can and look at the ceiling, as shown below.

Head back and to the left.

If you have left sided pain in the back of your neck, you may have a swollen or irritated facet joint on the left.  Pain in the front of the neck or on the right side usually means that it's not a facet joint.
