Facet Pain Can Lead to Muscular Instability

Facet pain after whiplash can weaken the muscles that help stabilize the spine.  How does this happen?  Damage to the facet causes an inhibitory signal to be sent which blocks the normal signal sent by the disc to the multifidus muscle.   Since this muscle is so important for stability, this segment of the spine gets sloppy and which causes more facet pain.
