Whiplash
has always been controversial. However, our understanding of this problem
has grown greatly in the last few years. First, it's not all in your head.
Second, this is a real problem that has certain patterns and types, just
like other diseases. Whiplash spans the spectrum from mild to severe and
everything in-between.
Whiplash can involve injuries to the muscles, ligaments, and nerves of the
neck. There are also associated disorders like
low back pain,
hip pain,
dizziness,
arm or hand numbness,
headaches,
jaw pain, etc... It's
important to note that different people will have different symptoms. Many
patients will only have neck pain and no other associated disorders. The
good news is that vast majority of people get better in the first few
weeks to the first few months.
