Acupressure isn't mystical or mysterious. It's
just placing pressure over certain areas to help control pain. These
two points are the location of the nerves that can cause post-whiplash
headache. |
 |
Take your index finger and feel for the areas
represented by the bigger blue dots above. The first (GON) can be
found by starting from the big bump in the middle of the back of the
head (the pointy one just above the top of your neck) and going about
one inch down and one inch over (to either side as one is to the left
and one to the right). Put some pressure over this point back up
toward the back of the head. How does it feel? If it causes a
headache, the greater occipital nerve nerve is too irritated for this
technique. See your doctor. If it feels good or reduces a headache,
congratulations, you've just learned a great Acupressure technique for
headaches! You can put pressure here with your finger, massage this
area, or ice this area down. You can also lie down on the floor and
use a tennis or racquet ball to put pressure over this area.
The LON point lies one to two inches to the side
and a little down from the GON point. In the diagram above, it's the
two smaller blue dots. You should be about an inch directly behind the
ear and just behind the big bony bump that's in this area. Try the
same techniques as above. If it causes a headache, the lesser
occipital nerve nerve is too irritated for this technique. See your
doctor. If it feels good or reduces a headache, congratulations,
you've just learned your second great Acupressure technique for
headaches!
