If you have dizziness due to this nerve or problems with this level, get it evaluated by your doctor.

Dizziness should always be evaluated by a qualified ENT specialist. While most MD primary care doctors and ENT specialists aren't trained to evaluate the neck, this evaluation is strongly recommended to rule out an inner ear problem. If the inner ear checks out, consider getting the upper part of the neck mobilized (direct pressure to treat the stiffness in the joints) by a qualified physical therapist (special training required). Find a level 3 Canadian Manual therapist (there are many in the states) or a high level Maitland or Paris trained physical therapist. Realize that out of 10 practicing physical therapists in the US, only 1 would be expected to have the training needed to adequately treat this area.

Warning! Chiropractic manipulation is not safe for this condition and will frequently make it worse!

Each nerve root in the neck has a neck joint or "facet" associated with it. In this case, the associated joint is the C1-C2 joint, which is actually more of a rotation joint than a true facet. When the neck joint gets irritated, it refers pain to the head.
