Spinal Ultrasound

Ultrasound is using extremely high pitched sound to create a cross section type image of tissues.  It's been commonly used to image babies in the womb.   However, in recent years it's been used to get a closer look at inflammation and soft-tissues.  The studies don't seem to support the use of this technology for detection of facet inflammation (as it's commonly used). There is good literature support for identifying painful discs and lumbar stenosis.  It's also commonly over-read by many providers and all results should be confirmed by a good thorough physical exam and history.
